Top Rope Anchors Group Class - Chatfield Hollow, CT

  • Chatfield Hollow Park 360 Rte 80 Killingworth, CT, 06419 United States (map)

Learn how to make your own top rope anchors to increase your ability to climb outdoors! In this class you will learn the skills needed to build top rope anchors in various types of terrain. This course is a critical component for all climbers, and specifically Northeast climbers, in their journey to self-sufficiency outdoors. This course will teach clients how to evaluate terrain for suitability, tie knots (to include a BHK, Bowline, clove hitch, and figure-8 follow through) and place anchor masterpoints to allow for appropriate lines of ascent.

Additional time will be spent discussing building anchors on bolted anchor stations, and the specific considerations for doing so.

Following this course, you will be able to competently and confidently construct you own anchors for climbing and rappelling! Start your outdoor climbing journey towards self-sufficiency today!

MEETING LOCATION

We will meet near Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth, CT in a parking area just off RTE 80. We will do introductions, gear up, and walk the ~7 mins into the cliff where we will spend the day.

DO I NEED ANY CLIMBING EXPERIENCE?

Absolutely not! All abilities are welcome to this event. While we encourage participants to have some climbing experience either in the gym or outdoors, it isn't necessary. All you need is a desire to learn how to construct the necessary systems to climb independently outdoors.
