MEETING LOCATION

We recommend meeting the night before your climb to try on boots and review all necessary gear. We will likely meet near Tmax-n-Topo’s hostel at 5046 Cascade Road, Lake Placid, NY. This is a great, affordable place to stay in the heart of the high peaks of the Adirondacks, and close to where we will be climbing. We can also meet at The Mountaineer in Keene Valley, NY. This is the gear shop at the heart of the Adirondacks climbing and hiking community, and you can purchase any last minute apparel.

For our climb, we will generally run these events either in Pitchoff Pass near Lake Placid, or in Chapel Pond Canyon near Keene Valley. These locations are within ~20 minutes of each other. The ultimate location will depend on weather, ice conditions, and where you are driving from. We will make this decision a day or two prior to our climb.

DO I NEED ANY CLIMBING EXPERIENCE?

No! This course is perfect for anyone with no ice climbing experience at all, and still good for those with only a day or two under their belt! We will focus on the basic use of equipment, and specific techniques needed to climb ice. If you do not know how to belay, we will teach you how to do that as well!
